6 February 2010 - Certificates from the State Archives in Wroclaw
Recently, the media in Poland received the information on finding in Ostrow Wielkopolski the death certificate of the most famous resident of 安idnica - Baron Manfred von Richthofen. Also, we wrote that the "Red Baron Foundation’ is already in possession of the document thanks to the Museum in Ostrow Wielkopolski.
Today we are proud to announce that we own more documents. At the end of December, we were in the course of searching for Red Baron’s birth certificate in Wroclaw Registry Office. It turned out that the Office didn’t have it. The pre-war period records of the Registry Office in Wroc豉w II (Breslau Standesamt II) are in the State Archives in Wroclaw.
The certificates of the Richthofen family were found in the State Archives in Wroc豉w. Among the 15 documents that we had ordered and received today there is the most important one for us. It is the birth certificate of Red Baron. Among the documents there is also the birth certificare of Manfred’s sister - Elizabeth Terese Elfriede.
Other documents relate to the further members of the large Richthofen family.

3 February 2010 - Will they take a stand ? - There is hope
When asked to register 2 buildings in 安idnica as monuments, Polisk officials of the lower rank still refused to do it explaining that it is against the law. They don’t want to continue the matter that way.
We are pleased to report that the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage have replied in a different way. The Ministry ordered the officials in question to deal with the serious issue reported by the ‘Red Baron Foundation’ (we wrote about it on 30th Nov. 2009).
We realize that the Ministry’s reply still does not determine anything, but we are pleased that the matter has not been definitively closed and there is still a chance for its happy ending.
The following texts are already on the website in Polish, where you can also see the birth certificate.
This is also a good chance for us to say that we have already fixed an appointment with a the Conservator of Buildings of Historical Interest and the inhabitants of the house of Red Baron’s in front of the building in order to register it as a monument.
We will be pleased to inform you about the results soon.
29 December 2009 - An important document In the Red Baron Foundation’s collections
At the beginning of this month, Poland’s almost all newspapers wrote about finding the „Red Baron’s” death certificate at Ostr闚 Wielkopolski. Writing his doctor’s thesis, Chairman of the Ostr闚 Genealogical Society Maciej Kowalczyk accidentally came cross the death certificate of baron Manfred Albrecht von Richthofen, the flying ace In World War I, at the local register office.
Richthofen was registered at Ostr闚 Wielkopolski because it was where the First Uhlans’ Regiment, named after Russia’s Tsar Alexander III, stationed where Richthofen served.
A copy of the death certificate shows that the Red Baron was a cavalry captain upon his death. He was 25, a Protestant, He was born In Wroclaw, his father was a retired major. Richthofen’s parents lived In 安idnica. The baron died as a result of injuries suffered during the fighting in Northern France on April 21, 1918.
Chairman of the Red Baron’s Foundation Jerzy Gaszy雟ki immediately established contact with director of the Museum at Ostr闚 Wielkopolski Witold Banach. We present a document on the most famous inhabitant of 安idnica that we received - see
14 December 2009 - The Red Baron vehicle served In Vietnam
During their stay In the USA in 2008, members of the Rolling Thunder group (admirers of military vehicles) looked for new vehicles to meet their needs. They came across M54, a vehicle adapted to escorting reserves as well as to protecting other vehicles.
During the Vietnam war till 1973, these vehicles were individually adjusted by American soldiers to meet their needs.
The Rolling Thunder group managed not only to buy the lorry but also to find Wayn Dobos who during that war not only developed the truck, but also took part in numerous convoys. Cooperation was established that resulted in recreating the lorry and obviously in restoring its former war time name - the Red Baron…Where do we know it from?
Of course, we mean Baron Manfred von Richthofen, the most famous inhabitant of 安idnica, who fascinated his opponents still in his lifetime and when he died during the war In 1918, his prowess and his noble attitude became, for most people, worthy of the greatest respect and the Red Baron has enjoyed this respect worldwide till the present day. It was his wartime opponents, the then enemies, who already during the funeral of the Red Baron recognized his greatness and buried him with the greatest honours. Up to the present day, people in numerous clubs and associations as well as artists, designers and thousands of admirers worldwide have remembered the Red Baron. Photos of the article about the reconstruction of the lorry that appeared in the Classic Military Vehicle journal - see.
30 November 2009 - Will the proper authorities take a stand?
Today, we sent letters describing the objects that, In our opinion, should be put on the list of buildings of historical interest, Will the authorities to which we sent a letter and a disk together with photographs be willing to adopt a stand on this problem? We will see and time will tell, The letters were sent to the Minister of Culture, to the National Conservator, to the Provincial Conservator and to the conservator working nearest to the objects in question, that is, to the conservator of buildings of historical interest In Walbrzych.
We want the house in which Baron Manfred von Richthofen lived to be put on the list of buildings of historical interest. This is important in so far as the success of the efforts made by the housing cooperative, the owner of the house, to get EU funds to repair the house depends on this decision. Without this money and despite their good intentions, the owners of the house are unable to cover the costs of such a venture.
The second object situated near the Baron’s house is a unique basement, Perhaps its name and its definition are not so very interesting as the object itself is - see. The object is really unique, This is the object unparalleled on the world scale, worthy of undertaking the efforts to save it.
